Internal - What makes people want to change?

- Dissatisfaction with the current situation

- Belief that things could be better

- Belief that they can influence things (make a difference)

- An understanding of what’s in it for them, and for the organization

External - What do people need in order to believe that change will succeed?

- The support of management, including:

* A shared vision of the desired future

* Resources (money, time)

* Priority

* Training in areas needed to successfully implement changes

* By example, living the culture they are asking workers to live

 

- The support of the culture, including:

* Trust between individuals and groups (based on open, honest communications and systems that support this communication)

* The encouragement of risk-taking and learning

* Teamwork

 

• Question 1 - Can individuals be change ready in an organization that isn’t change ready?

 

• Question 2 - Can an organization be change ready if the individuals in it aren’t change ready?
